CHS Girls Hoops: Lady Tigers lose to Nacogdoches 65-49 (Updated)

Corsicana — Once again, the Lady Tigers hit the third-quarter wall against a district opponent.

This time it was Nacogdoches, who clamped down on Corsicana with the Lady Tigers trying to work their way back into the game. Nacogdoches forward Charity Page scored 24 points as the Lady Dragons ran away from the Lady Tigers for a 65-49 victory on Friday night at Tiger Gym.

The loss did serious damage to Corsicana’s playoff hopes, but the Lady Tigers (15-5, 1-6) do have a path to the postseason. Corsicana can move into a fifth-place tie with Whitehouse at Tiger Gym on Tuesday night, which would set up a likely fourth-place showdown at Jacksonville on Friday.

Corsicana owns the tiebreaker over Jacksonville, which is 3-4 in district, with a home win earlier this season. A Corsicana win against Whitehouse and a Jacksonville loss to No. 18 Lindale on Tuesday would position the Lady Tigers to beat the Lady Maidens on Friday and take control of fourth place with a season sweep of their two district games.

The Lady Tigers were able to get within six points of the Lady Dragons in the third quarter, but Page took over the game, scoring 12 points the rest of the way.

Corsicana fell two games out of the fourth-place spot with three games left to play. The Lady Tigers face a must-win game against Whitehouse on Tuesday night at home.

Galinda Davis and Calae Wilson led the Lady Tigers with eight points. Shamara Taylor, Tatyanna Betts and Erica Melendez each had seven points.

The Mildred Eagles didn’t have to go far to find a new baseball coach to replace Aaron Tidwell, who left the diamond to take the job as the principal of Mildred High School.
On Saturday, Mildred named softball coach Brett Zamzow its new baseball coach as Zamzow, who was Tidwell's assistant for five years,  moves back to baseball after spending a year coaching softball.
To complete the move Mildred Athletic Director Billy Dan Chambliess will take over the softball team. Chambliess, who is the head football coach, spent fours years coaching softball before becoming the school’s AD last year. All four of his teams won district titles.
