Blooming Grove looking for big season

New York — Blooming Grove — There’s nothing like winning — nothing.

Just ask the kids at Blooming Grove High School, where not even the brutal Texas heat can wilt their spirits.

If it feels a little different on the field during two-a-days at Blooming Grove it’s because it is — different in every way.

“We’re happy to be here. Before we would complain about two-a-days, about how hot it is and having to practice, but not this year,’’ said Tyler Morris, a senior running back and linebacker.

 Morris knows why it’s changed.

“It’s winning,’’ he said.

Last year the Lions reached the playoffs for the first time since 2007, and that taste of success carried over to the start of two-a-days this week.

“This year is different,’’ Morris said. “Now we can’t wait to get on the field. We love football.’’

Blooming Grove is big up front with an offensive line that has the promise to carry this team, and the Lions are hungry to keep winning. Everyone is excited about what they believe will be  huge year.

“Ever since we played Pee Wee ball we would get killed,’’ said senior Travis Whiteside, a running back and linebacker. “And then last year we won. It made a big difference. This year everybody wants to be out here. We couldn’t wait for two-a-days. Winning just motivates everybody.’’

Morris said winning is like a push in the back.

“Winning last year just makes everyone want to step up and do more this year,’’ he said.

That’s life at Blooming Grove these days.

“We’re all looking for a big year,’’ Morris said.
