The Kerens Bobcats are state bound.
They won the 6-and-under T-Ball district title Thursday night, beating the Canton Pirates 14-6 in four innings to capture the championship. The Bobcats travel to Emory for a chance to win a state title, beginning July 22.
The key to winning the district title was great defense and timely hitting.
Pitcher Matthew Rickard made a number of big plays throwing runners out at first, where Ryan Priddy was as solid as a rock.
Second baseman Adrian Solis and third baseman Lane Lynch also threw out runners at first as Kerens held Canton to just six runs. Rickard, Lynch, Priddy and Bryce Lincoln led the defense.
The Bobcats scored three in bottom of first as Solis, Priddy and Lynch all scored, and had a big five-run second inning and a six-run third inning to pull away.
Lynch hit three home runs in three at-bats, and J.J. Hightower, Mason Thompson and Jot Grant also came through with big hits.
