Navarro Softball: Bulldogs sweep Kilgore, 4-0, 11-2

Luna throws a shutout, Farmer gets first win in relief

Corsicana — Navarro’s first-place Lady Bulldogs played their last regular season games on the road Wednesday and swept Kilgore, 4-0 and 11-2 to improve to 13-1 in the Region XIV race and 31-11 for the year.

Ciara Luna pitched a two-hit shutout, striking  out six in the first game and freshman and former Golden Circle Athlete of the Year Olivia Farmer picked  up her first win at Navarro in relief in the second game. Farmer, from Mildred, didn’t allow a run and gave up  two hits while striking out two in 3 1/3 innings of relief of Camrie Helm.

“She came in and mixed her speed well and kept them off balance,’’ Navarro Coach Jessica Karenke said of Farmer.

Mo Miller, Jade Havard and Kristen Ahearn all went 5 for 8 to lead Navarro at the plate.

Miller scored four runs and stole a base. Havard had a double, scored four runs and drove in four runs, and Ahearn had a triple, two stolen bases and drove in five runs.

“It was a good team win on the road. It was our last road game until the region tournament,’’ said Karenke, whose team has already clinched a berth in the tournament in Lufkin (May 1-4).

Navarro will play its final six games at home, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday against Bossier.
