CHS softball team beats Lindale, 3-1, to have chance at district title

Martin’s Mill 13, Kerens 4

The Kerens Bobcats ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday on the road and fell to Martins Mill, which put the game away with a five-run fifth inning and a four-run sixth.

Jeremy Gould went 2 for 3 with a double and scored a run and drove in a run for Kerens. Aaron Foxworth went 1 for 3 with a double, Brent Warren went 1 for 3 with a double and scored a run and Brett Anderson went 1 for 3 with a walk.

Dawson 17, Hubbard 5

Dawson traveled to Hubbard in a battle for first place in District 13-1A Tuesday, and came away with a big 17-5 win over the Jaguars. Hubbard had beaten Dawson, 12-, in the first matchup between the rivals.

The scoring started early for the Bulldogs as Jared Gray, in his first game back from injury, worked a walk to lead off the game. Dalton Long then had a sacrifice bunt, and Lane Dotson reached on an error to score Gray. Trent Underwood then singled to score Dotson. The Jaguars quickly answered with two of their own in the bottom of the first with Ty Graves and Hudson Alderman scoring.

The Bulldogs returned the favor by scoring two runs in the top of the second by Connor McEntire and Seth Lachney. Hubbard again answered the call, scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-4 lead that would hold until the fifth, when the Bulldog bats came alive with six runs to take a 10-5 lead.

Getting in on the action were Long with two RBIs and a run, Mason Burleson with an RBI and a run, Justin Gray with an RBI and a run, and Lachney with an RBI and a run. Also scoring in the inning were Brandon Cehand and McEntire. Underwood then settled in and went the distance, not allowing another run. Underwood finished the night pitching a complete game, giving up two earned runs, striking out 10, walking five and allowing three hits.
