Navarro soccer: Bulldogs blast Rhode Island, 5-1, to win eighth in a row

Rochester, N.Y. — Navarro’s women’s soccer team won its eighth game in a row with a 5-1 win against Rhode Island Community College in Rochester, N.Y. on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 4 in the nation, dominated the match and goalkeeper Kenia Medina made six saves in the rout that ended a two-game road trip to New York. Navarro opened with a 2-0 win against Monroe on Friday.

Navarro was led by Natalie Torres, who scored twice and had two assists. Trudi Carter, who leads the team with 11 goals, scored twice.

Torres scored with an assist from Melina Prado at 35:14 to get things going and scored Navarro’s final goal with less than four minutes left in the game to book-mark the game with goals to start and end the victory. She had two assists within a six-minute span, sending a nice pass to Carter, who scored at 73:13 and then she help set up Prado’s goal that came at the 79:04 mark.

Stephany Perez scored an unassisted goal off a rebound for Rhode Island to tie things at 1-1 two minutes into the second half, and then Carter scored twice to lift Navarro to a 3-1 lead before Prado and Torres scored to complete the victory. Navarro had 14 shots on goal.

The Lady Bulldogs, who are now 10-2, won’t have another game until they play host to No. 6 Tyler in a national showdown on Oct. 15
