After a rough lost to Nacogdoches last Friday night, the Tiger softball team took on Lindale Tuesday and left East Texas with a 6-3 win.
The Tigers started off the game with a single by Katy Polk, and Sidney Kirk scored her on a shot to left field. Kirk reached third on an error by the left fielder. Raylee Smithart reached base and scored Kirk from an error by the third baseman to make it 2-0.
Lindale matched the Tigers two runs off three Tigers errors in the first.
The Tigers opened the third with four singles and two walks to take a 5-2 lead. Lindale scored a run in the bottom of the fourth after a leadoff double.
Maddie Andrews led off the fifth with a single, and scored on a single from Carly Cates.
Kirk got the win on the mound and had four strikeouts.
The Tigers, now 19-13, and 6-3 in District 16-4A, host Whitehouse on Friday night for their final district game.
Mildred 15, Rice 0 (5): The Mildred Lady Eagles continued their undefeated run through District 23-2A with a victory over Rice Lady Bulldogs. Olivia Farmer led the Eagles at the plate with a 3 for 3 performance with a double and an RBI. Callie Bland was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and freshman Abbie Burnham was 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored three runs.
Joanna Tapley pitched five scoreless innings, striking out 10 while giving up only one hit.
Hanna Owens singled in the first inning for Rice in the loss.
Mildred concludes district play on Friday when the Lady Eagles host Blooming Grove.
Frost 15, Avalon 0 (5): The Lady Bears made quick work of Avalon, scoring in every inning and winning impressively on the road. Jae Moore did not allow a hit, and struck out 12.
Hillaree Schwartz went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, and Kadee Bowling added three hits – including a triple – and scored three times. Jasmyn Steels was 2 for 3 with three runs.
The Lady Bears (10-3, 8-3 in 14-1A) led 8-0 after six-run second.
Martin’s Mill 3, Kerens 2: Seventh-ranked Kerens saw its unblemished streak in district play snapped Tuesday. Martins Mill’s Austin Gogans limited the Bobcats to two hits. Kerens left-hander Brett Anderson suffered his first loss of the year.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Bobcats (14-3, 11-1 in District 19-1A) plated a run in the fourth to tie. After Martin’s Mills made it 2-1 in the sixth, Kerens bounced back to tie again.
The Bobcats could not find the equalizer, however, after Martin’s Mill took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh.
Dylan Woods and DJ Kamp had the only hits for Kerens.
