NC Softball: Bulldogs make quick work of Hill in doubleheader sweep

MILDRED — The Navarro Lady Bulldogs improved to 20-10 with a sweep of the Hill College Lady Rebels, 12-0 and 10-1, on Monday in Mildred.

Coach Jessica Karenke-Burke’s Lady Bulldogs pounded out 10 hits in Game 1 and another 11 in Game 2.

“It was a good team effort, everyone contributed,” Karenke-Burke said. “We did a great job of hitting the ball hard with runners in scoring position.”

Navarro’s quartet of pitchers were dominant on the mound in the two games, only giving up one run on four hits and one walk on the afternoon.

In Game 1, which lasted five innings, the Lady Bulldogs scored six runs in the second inning and another five runs in the fourth inning to pull away from the Lady Rebels. Alyssa Dotson lead the Bulldogs with three hits, including a double. Jade Havard and Megan Noel each had three RBIs for the Bulldogs.

Ciara Luna picked up the win on the mound for Navarro, going four innings and giving up only one hit while striking out two. Britney Bledsoe pitched a shut-out fifth inning to end the game.

In Game 2, Navarro used another big second inning by scoring seven runs en route to a 10-1 victory. It also lasted just five innings.

The Lady Bulldogs were lead by Destiny Kennedy’s 3-for-4 day at the plate. Kristen Ahearn, Kaitlin Moerbe and Logan Polasek each collected two hits apiece for Navarro.

Cambrie Helm gave up three hits and one earned run to earn the victory in the second game. Olivia Farmer pitched two hitless innings to complete the sweep for the Lady Bulldogs.

Navarro will host Northeast College in a double-header on Wednesday in conference action. Game 1 begins at 1 p.m.
