Corsicana’s Sidney Kirk, who was the Daily Sun’s Golden Circle Offensive Player of the Year, heads a list of three area players who were named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state softball teams that were announced Tuesday.
Kirk was named to the Class 4A team and Hubbard’s Kate Saucke and Olivia Curtis were named to the Class 1A team.
Kirk, a junior who played third base and pitched for the Lady Tigers, was the Co-District 16-4A Offensive Player of the Year. She hit seven home runs, including two in the season-ending playoff loss, and drove in 46 runs. She had a 1.085 slugging percentage and had 27 extra base-hits. She hit .606 for the season and scored 41 runs. She was a force on the mound as well, winning 15 games.
Saucke, a junior who plays third base, was the Daily Sun’s Golden Circle Defensive Player of the Year. She was the District 11-1A MVP after hitting .558 with two homers and 17 extra base-hits. She drove in 46 runs and scored 43 runs.
Curtis, a junior, was named the Daily Sun’s Heather Holland Pitcher of the Year. She won four games in a row in the playoffs to carry Hubbard into the regional final, and finished the season with a 11-3-1 record and a 1.60 ERA. She struck out 88 batters along the way and batted .441 with 25 RBIs.
