Corsicana — The Tigers will have representation in Austin in two weeks. Noah Gilfillan and Dzifa Mallett made sure of that.
Gilfillan won the Region II-4A pole vault Friday, crossing the bar at 15-6. And Mallett keeps improving in the high jump, clearing 6-6 to finish second. He had just set his personal a week before at the area meet when he went 6-4.
Gilfillan finished second at the area meet, going 14-0.
The state track meet is May 10-11 at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium. Both Gilfillan and Mallett will compete Friday, coach Wayne Braziel said. The high jump is scheduled to begin at 11. The pole vault is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
At last year’s state meet, 6-10 was the winning height in 4A. In the pole vault, it was 16-0.
