— Tigers pole vaulter Noah Gilfillan goes from one big stage to another this week.

Gilfillan will jump in the Texas Relays, the premier track and field meet in the state, two weeks after competing in New York City at the New Balance Indoor Track Meet.

Gilfillan, a junior, is the only athlete from Corsicana that will compete in Austin this weekend. The pole vault competition for high schools starts at 3:30 p.m. at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Gilfillan had a great experience in the Big Apple, but he can’t wait for Saturday.

“I’ve been looking forward to it all season,” Gilfillan said. “Once I figured out I qualified for the A division I was really psyched.”

Gilfillan’s season best is 15 feet, 6 inches at the Aledo Indoor Meet and the Joshua Relays. He has gone 17 feet in practice.

His goal is to improve on his performance in New York City.

“It was a really big stage,” Gilfillan said. “It was huge. I didn’t perform as well as I wanted to.”
