Corsicana — The Tiger tennis teams were having their best tournament of the season so far before rain halted Friday’s Spring Break Slam Varsity Tournament.

In boys doubles, Corsicana’s teams of Jonathan Castan and Ben Crocker were playing Brandon Levenson and Tyler Schultz before the rains hit at the Corsicana High School and Mertz Tennis Courts.

In girls doubles, both Tiger teams made the semifinals. Ellen Yates and Katie Miller were playing for third place and Maggie Phinne and Caroline Kennemore made it to finals and were about to play before we cancelled.

In mixed doubles, Eric Melton and Michelle Cho came in seventh place and Vicente Castillo and Laura Flores took 13th place for Corsicana

In girls singles, Autumn Grounds came in third and Melany Betancourt won the consolation bracket.

In boys singles, Jacob Middleton came in sixth and Christian Minniear came in seventh.

The Tigers were in the Top 2 in team points with Class 5A Longview before play was stopped.

“With only a month left before district tournament, our players have been working hard in practice and focusing on the details of their game,” Tigers coach Chad White said.
