Kerens’ junior Breanna Baxter has been named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 1A All-State volleyball team.
The team was announced Monday.
Baxter is the fist volleyball player from Kerens to be named to the All-State team.
“She’s the first. The thing that makes me happy is she’s coming back,’’ said Kerens volleyball coach Kristen Lynch. “I’m excited about having an All-State player coming back next year.
“You can’t ask for a better athlete, or a better student. She’s a great kid, and she always has a great attitude. She works hard and she’s very coachable. Definitely, hard work pays off. It paid off for her.’’
Baxter, a middle blocker/middle hitter, led her team to its best season in the program’s history as the LadyCats advanced to the third round of the Cass 1A state playoffs.
Baxter who was unstoppable at times and did just about everything for Kerens, is a big reason the program has taken off of late.
Baxter finished the season with 324 kills and 232 blocks and was a terror at the net, where she simply dominated every team she faced, including Kerens’ three playoff opponents. She went 93 percent from the service line and also had 181 digs. She was voted the District 14-1A Co-MVP.
“She’s very smart,’’ Lynch said. “She sees things on the court, and knows what the other team is going to do.
“She’s just a great kid and I’m very happy for her.’’
