GC Football: Kerens lands 10 on District 6-1A DI all-district first team

Corsicana — Nate Betts and Brett Anderson led the way for the Kerens Bobcats, who placed several players on the District 6-1A DI all district football team.

Betts, an electric quarterback who led Kerens to the playoffs, was named to the all-district offensive first team as a quarterback and also was named to the defensive first team a defensive back. Betts completed 78 of 157 passes for 1,298 yards and 15 touchdowns and he rushed for 1,402 yards on 54 carries and ran for 17 TDs. He made three interceptions and broke up five passes and made 34 tackles as a DB, and had one fumble recovery.

Anderson, one of the top receivers in this part of the state, was named to the all district offensive first team as a wide receiver and also was named to the all district defensive first team as a defensive back. Anderson made 47 receptions for 842 yards and scored eight touchdowns, and he had four interceptions and broke up nine passes while making 32 tackles as a defensive back. He also recovered a fumble.

Kerens running back Dontarious Bryant was named to the offensive first team and offensive linemen Hunter Green and Mason Glosgow were offensive first-team selections along with wide receiver Shelton Sayles.

Five Bobcats were named to the all-district defensive first team. Defensive lineman Bryer Duke and linebackers Aaron Foxworth and Jovani Coronado were named to the first team along with Betts and Anderson.

Coronado also was named the second-team kicker and Duke was named to the  offensive second team as a lineman. Defensive lineman Quadre Duncan was named to the defensive second team.

Six Kerens players were listed on the honorable mention list: Jeremy Gould, Dustin Jock, Samuel Williams, Logan Gordon, Tavian Hall and Dakota Deheart.
