PLAYERS TO WATCH: Dawson: OL/LB Jake Strother, WR/DB Marvin Manning, OL/DE Mark Martinez, RB/DB Alex Ruiz. Wortham: RB Tyvon Freeman, RB/P Shane Sykora, NT Cameron Lewis, RB/DB Kyle Goener.

UPDATE: Dawson travels to Wortham to finish the regular season in a showdown between two struggling Bulldog teams … Dawson lost its Battle of Highway 31 contest against Hubbard, 70-0, a week ago while Wortham had a bye … it’s been an uphill battle for both squads this year, as they have posted the two lowest totals in the Golden Circle in both total offense and points scored … Wortham holds the edge in each of those categories, however … Dawson has scored 68 fewer points in 2012 than this week’s foe … Friday night’s matchup holds playoff implications, with the final postseason position still up for grabs in 9-1A DII, and Wortham looking like the favorite to claim it … in 2011 Wortham downed Dawson, 49-6, behind an 82-yard rushing performance by RB Freeman … it was the lone win of the season for the Bulldogs in blue and white … Wortham racked up 265 yards on the ground, and scored 35 points in the first half to claim that victory … Dawson was held to just 78 yards of offense in the loss … RB Dalton Long scored the lone touchdown for the black and gold Bulldogs in that meeting.

Meridian at Hubbard

7:30 p.m. Friday

At Jaguar Field

RECORDS: Class 1A, DII Meridian is 2-7, 1-2 in District 9-1A. Hubbard is 7-2, 3-0.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Meridian: RB/DB John Lira, QB Nick Prestwood, TE/LB Chad Crawford, RB Adrian Rapoz. Hubbard: RB Bradley Walker, TE/DE Hudson Alderman, WR/DB Casey Jones, OL Jessie Cummings, LB Ashton Hawthorne.

UPDATE: Meridian lost 34-7 at home to Frost last week ... Hubbard rolled over winless Dawson on the road 70-0 ... Meridian’s only two wins are a 26-0 victory over Itasca and a 20-6 district win over Dawson ... Hubbard’s Trey Henderson has been the most consistent factor in the Jags’ offense with 1,123 yards rushing while scoring nine TDs ... Hubbard has already clinched at least a tie for the district title and will represent 9-1A as the first-place team in the playoffs due to its 44-27 win over Frost ... A win over Meridian will propel the Jaguars to their second straight district title after a 0-10 campaign just two years ago ... The Yellowjackets can still make the playoffs with a win over Hubbard and a Wortham loss to Dawson ... Even with a loss, Meridian could still finish in a three-way tie for third place if Dawson upsets Wortham ... Hubbard all-state RB Bradley Walker looked healthy in last week’s win at Dawson as he rushed six times for 123 yards and a score ... In its seven wins this season, Hubbard has allowed just 43 points with four shutouts.
