Corsicana's contingent at the Region II-4A tennis tournament at UT-Arlington went down Monday, but it did not go quietly. The two boys doubles teams logged three-set matches, and girls singles qualifier Autumn Grounds drew the tournament's toughest match.
Grounds had to play the defending region champion and two-time state semifinalist, coach Chad White reported. She fell, 6-0, 6-1.
In boys doubles, District 16-4A runners-up Tyler Schultz and Brandon Levenson faced an opponent from Frisco High, and lost 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
"They played well and had many chances, but the match just had its ups and downs," White said. "I'm very proud of Tyler and Brandon's effort."
The district champions, teammates Ben Crocker and Jonathan Caston, came into the tournament seeded third. They fell 6-7, 7-6, 7-5 to a team from McKinney North.
"It was the longest doubles match of the year for any Corsicana players," White said. "We just didn't end up on top. They did everything they could and fought until the end."
