CG Volleyball: Roundup: Frost rocks Blum, Kerens. Mildred win to stay unbeaten in district

Corsicana — It didn’t really hit them until they got to the Whataburger in Hillsboro.

That’s when the kids from Frost started celebrating their sweep against Blum on Tuesday.

“Ever since I have been at Frost (seven years) we have never beaten Blum,’’ said an ecstatic Frost coach Elaine Woods, “So this means a lot to us. And we beat the them at their place. It was a huge momentum booster.’’

Frost knocked off the defending District 13-A champs, 25-22, 25-23, 25-14 and is now 5-2 in a tight district race and 19-7 for the year.

“We played pretty sluggish against Avalon on Friday,’’ Wood said. “But they came out and they were moving and they were talking and they were getting after it and working as a team. That’s why we won.’’

When the match was over the Frost kids didn’t know what to do.

“They didn’t celebrate that much when it was over,’’ Woods said. “The girls were in kind of awe. It didn’t sink in. But then when we stopped to eat it was like, ‘Oh my gosh! What just happened’. And they were celebrating at Whataburger.’’

Everyone on the team pitched in for the big win.

Heather Montgomery (4 kills, 1 ace), Hillaree Schwartz (5 kills, 7 assists, 4 digs), Jae Moore (6 kills, 9 digs, 1 ace), Kaycee Bowling (6 kills, 10 assists, 8 digs, 2 aces), Madison Revil (2 kills, 1 ace) and Morgan Elmore (4 kills, 3 assists, 2 digs) all had big nights.

“I am super proud of them,’’ Wood said. “We hope to build off this when we play Kopperl on Saturday.’’

There was never any doubt for Connor Hill, never any question about what he would do or how he would do it.

    But never from Connor.
He just never dwelled on the fact he played sports with one eye. He didn't worry or talk about it when he was 10 and he never talked about it at Mildred High, where Hill emerged as a star on the basketball court and baseball diamond.
