BLOOMING GROVE —
Blooming Grove built a 21-20 lead at halftime Friday night, but couldn’t hold on against Scurry-Rosser as Paten Snell threw six touchdown passes to lead the Wildcats to a 54-21 win over the Lions.
Scurry Rosser is now 7-0 overall and took sole possession of first place in the District 6-2A Division II standings with a perfect 4-0 record.
Tolar’s 49-0 win over Mildred leaves both teams tied for second with 3-1 records, while Blooming Grove and Rice are both sitting fourth at 2-2. The Lions are 4-3 on the season.
The Wildcats struck early when Snell threw the first of three TD passes to Dylan Foster. Snell connected with Collan Jasien on the conversion for an 8-0 lead at the 9:41 mark in the opening stanza.
The Lions responded when Tyler Elllis threw a 20-yard scoring strike to Jared Obenour.
Ellis booted the PAT to cut the lead to 8-7 with 2:39 remaining in the first.
On BG’s next possession, Ellis tossed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Blake to put the Lions up 14-8 at the 10:46 mark in the second period.
Scurry-Rosser scored again on Snell’s 8-yard TD toss to Peyton Shirey. Snell was stopped short on the two-point conversion run, leaving the score knotted at 14-all at the 7:59 mark.
On the ensuing kickoff, Daniel Camarillo broke loose for a 75-yard return for a touchdown. Ellis’ PAT put Blooming Grove up 21-14 with 7:42 left in the second.
Snell found Shirey again on a 46-yard pass with 2:01 left in the first half. Dusty Searcy’s extra point kick was blocked, leaving the Lions with a 21-20 advantage at intermission.
Snell threw two more TDs to Foster in the second half. Rodney Sample scored on a 6-yard run and Edward Green had an interception return for a touchdown.
