GC Football: Wortham ends season with 61-6 rout over Dawson.

DAWSON — After a somewhat promising outlook for Dawson on senior night, Wortham’s combination of an explosive passing game and a steady running attack took over the game. Behind 264 total yards from quarterback Witty Busby the Wortham Bulldogs rolled on to a victory over the opposing Dawson Bulldogs.

As the game started it seemed evenly matched but as the second stanza began it became apparent that Witty Busby had taken over the game. He took part in 3 scoring plays in the quarter with a 20 yard dash, and a TD pass to Trantham and Freeman. In the game, Busby was a part of 6 of the 10 touchdowns. His legs benefited off of the fact that he was so lethal threw the air.

Dawson’s offense looked good early as Ian Norwood sprinted down the field for 40 yards and a touchdown on their second series. Eventually, Wortham’s defense tightened up but it didn’t help Dawson’s case that lost 3 fumbles and had an interception.

When Dawson did have the ball they showed a quick, crisp running attack that was overall effective. But again, turnovers didn’t let them gain any momentum.

With the win Wortham advanced to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in District 9-1A play, while Dawson dropped to 0-10 on the season and 0-4 in district.

    The wait is over.

“I've got no gas left. I'm out,'' said Anderson, a senior lefty who stopped Cayuga cold, holding the three-time defending district champs to just three singles while striking out 14.
