GC Football: Blooming Grove rips Millsap, 48-13

BLOOMING GROVE — Tyler Ellis threw two touchdown passes, ran for another and booted a pair of field goals to lead the Blooming Grove Lions to a 48-13 victory over the Millsap Bulldogs Friday night in the regular season finale for both teams.

The Lions, now 6-4 overall, advance to the Class 2A Division 2 state playoffs. Blooming Grove will face Jacksboro for the second-straight year in bi-district. The two teams will meet Friday night at 7:30 in DeSoto. Blooming Grove is making back-to-back post-season appearances for the first time in 22 years.

Millsap scored on its opening drive Friday, but BG responded immediately as Ellis hooked up with Dalton Blake on a 70-yard TD pass. Ellis then kicked field goals of 40 and 21 yards, respectively, before throwing a 21-yard scoring strike to Brandon Hays for a 20-7 lead at halftime.

Travis Whiteside scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter on runs of 64 and 9 yards, respectively.

Ellis broke loose for a 14-yard TD with a 4:23 left in the third period, and then Hays had a 22-yard touchdown scamper with 7:24 remaining in the game to put the Lions up 48-7.
