NC Football: All-Conference -- Navarro’s Wright SWJCFC offensive MVP

Corsicana — Navarro placed three players on the first-team All-SWJCFC Team released on Sunday after the conference championship game.

Record-setting running back Tim Wright was named the SWJCFC Offensive MVP and first-team running back.

Other first-team players were freshman linebacker Kyron Minter and sophomore deep snapper Brent Nicholson.

While Navarro posted only three players on the first team, Tyler placed 10 players on the first unit. Navarro defeated Tyler, 33-24, in the SWJCFC semifinals. Fourth-place Blinn had four first-team players and non-playoff team Kilgore had three on the first team. Conference champion Trinity Valley had six-first team players.

Second-team players for the Bulldogs were sophomore offensive lineman Carter Wall, freshman wide receiver Devin Lauderdale and sophomore cornerback Sherman Gilbert.

Offensive players receiving honorable mention status for Navarro were freshman wide receiver Austin Collins, freshman offensive lineman Maurice Porter, sophomore center Patrick Dade, sophomore running back Cameron Washington and sophomore quarterback Josh Greer. Return specialist Mikechell Potts, who had two touchdown returns this season, was second team.

Navarro’s defensive players receiving honorable mention recognition were sophomore defensive linemen Kerry Holliday and Jonathan Williams, freshman defensive end Quincy Vasser, sophomore linebacker Dominic Kelly, freshman linebacker Chrishard Buhl, sophomore defensive back Aaron Shaw and freshman kicker Carlos Macias.

Wright led the conference in rushing this season with 1,566 yards and 23 touchdowns, both single-season Navarro records. Wright’s 240 carries this season was also a new Navarro mark.

Minter led the conference with 16 tackles for loss and was among the league leaders with six sacks and 14 quarterback hurries.

Lauderdale, who missed the conference championship game with a concussion, led the conference with 20.6 yards per reception. The Bellaire product had 30 catches and 6 TDs.

Gilbert was the most consistent of Navarro’s cornerbacks this season. He was second in the conference with four interceptions, one going for a touchdown. Gilbert also had a pair of fumble recoveries and forced four fumbles.
