It took the Corsicana Lady Tigers a while to hit their stride, then five second-half goals insured they came away from their second-round playoff matchup with an emphatic victory over Dallas Samuell.
Corsicana scored a deserved opening goal when sustained pressure forced the Dallas defense into an error. The ball fell to four-goal hero Elizabeth Castaneda who blasted the ball beyond the despairing grasp of Maggie Chevez Merin in the Dallas goal for 1-0.
After 35 minutes Dallas equalized. Miriam Mendoza blasted home a free kick from 25 yards. The Tigers came out in the second half determined to press home the advantage their play warranted. Four minutes into the second half Jenny Garcia played in Castaneda to blast home her second goal for 2-1. A minute later Castaneda made it 3-1 from the penalty spot before adding a fourth from a corner. Makenzi Taylor then added a fifth shortly after. With two minutes remaining the Tigers finished off the game with Stephanie Vera adding gloss to the score line by taking advantage of a rebound to slot home.
The Tigers will be playing in the third round of the playoffs next week with the opposition to be determined.
