GC Volleyball: Frost, Kerens start strong in tournaments

Corsicana — Frost took the first step (steps) toward winning the Blooming Grove Tournament on Thursday with three impressive victories on the opening day of play, beating Rio Vista, 25-14, 25-15, and defeating Avalon, 25-15, 25-11, before finishing the day with a sweep against Blooming Grove’s JV team, 25-12, 25-22.

Frost, which improved to 9-3-1 for the season, was led by Jae Moore (25 kills, 3, blocks, 9 aces), Heather Montgomery (9 kills, 1 block), Hillaree Schwartz (17 assists, 7 aces, 3 kills), Kaycee Bowling (24 assists, 7 kills, 3 aces) and Madison Revill (10 kills, 5 digs, 5 aces).

Kerens wins two with a split at Scurry-Rosser Tournament

Kerens swept past TK Gorman (25-21, 25-22) and Kemp (25-20, 25-23) and split with Grand Saline (22-25, 25-9) in the opening day of play at the Scurry-Rosser Tournament.

The Lady Cats were led by Breanna Baxter (20 of 22 serving, 3 aces, 15 kills, 24 blocks, 17 digs), Marqeshia Kelly (15 kills, 15 blocks, 16 digs), Taylor Ames (30 for 37 serving with 10 aces, 3 kills, 9 blocks, 39 assists), Tinesha Tolliver (42 for 45 serving, 12 aces, 4 kills, 4 blocks), Emmanuella Armant (17 of 18 serving, 2 aces, 3 kills, 8 blocks,), Marqeshia Kelly (15 kills, 15 blocks, 16 digs), Kayla Kilcrease (12 of 12 serving, 1 ace, 3 digs and Cambree Betts (24 of 29 serving 2 aces, 6 kills, 17 blocks, 12 assists).

    Kaylana Dickson got the name Bebop on her way to winning a national title in gymnastics this summer, and boy did it catch fire.
    Kaylana, a Corsicana native, picked up fans from all over the country and many bought Bebop T-shirts to help pay her expenses to Spokane, Wa., where she won the 8-and-under title in the double-mini trampoline event and finished third in floor exercise.
    More than 100 of her friends, family members and fans showed up at the Corsicana YMCA on Saturday to celebrate the national title and be on hand for a drawing for an autographed New Orleans Saints football jersey from David Hawthorne, a star defensive lineman for the Saints and Kaylana's uncle

    No Golden Circle players were named to the team

  • GC Baseball: Kerens' Anderson makes TSWA/Collin Street Bakery all-state team at four positions

    Call it the rarest of rares, at least as far as all-state teams go. Brett Anderson of Kerens shows up on the Texas Sports Writers Association/Collin Street Bakery all-state team not one, not two, not three, but four times. Dawson's Lane Dotson was a second-team outfielder, and the Bulldogs' Trent Underwood made the third-team as a pitcher, and also garnered an honorable mention nod at first base. Kerens outfielder Brent Warren was also an honorable mention pick.
