GC Football: Previews for this week's football games


Corsicana —


Tolar at Rice

7:30 p.m. Friday

At Bulldog Stadium

  Tolar is 6-2, 4-1 in District 6-2A DII. Rice is 3-5, 2-3.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:Tolar: QB/DB Corbin Wood, RB/LB Cory Solomon, OL/DL Alec Elder, WR/DB Rodie Brister.  Rice:  WR/DB Reece Whitt, RB/LB Chris Atchley, OL/DL Irving Briones, OL/LB Nathan Bowling.

UPDATE: Second meeting between the two schools, with Tolar, behind Cory Solomon’s 133 yards rushing and two touchdowns, winning last year … last week, Tolar defeated Blooming Grove, 50-10, while Rice dropped a heartbreaker to Mildred, 14-13 … over the last three weeks, the Rice defense has allowed only 91.7 rushing yards per game … Bulldog LB Raven Huffman eclipsed the 100 tackle mark last week with 10 against Mildred … with 748 yards, Chris Atchley leads the Bulldog ground attack … also pacing the Rice defense, Sergio Gonzalez has 6 tackles for losses on the season, and Reece Whitt added his second interception last week … Tolar scored 35 points in the second and third quarters last week to break open a close game … Corbin Wood and Cory Solomon combined for over 250 yards rushing against Blooming Grove … the Rattlers average 370 yards per game on offense … both Wood and Solomon are within 1000 yards passing and rushing respectively on the season.

Class 2A Blooming Grove is 4-4 and 2-3 in District 6-2A DII. Rio Vista is 1-7 and 0-5.

 PLAYERS TO WATCH:   Blooming Grove: QB Tyler Ellis, WR Daniel Camarillo, RB Travis Whiteside, RB Tyler Morris. Rio Vista: TE/LB Chase Hailey, QB Nick Russell, OL/DL Evan Roper, OL/DL Jacob Waits.

UPDATE: The Lions are coming off a tough 50-10 oss to Tolar on the road, and need a big bounce back game .. they will have a chance against a Rio Vista team that has won only one game all season and has been outscored, 295-133 .. The Lions need to finah strong to secure a playof spot and get kow they need wins over Rio Vista and Milsap (2-6, 1-4) to reach the playoffs as the fourth team in the district ... asses and rushed for 91 yards ... the Rattlers racked up 528 yards of offense in the rout ... The Lions have had a powerful offense for most of the year .. Tyler Morris (478 yards and a 7.2 yards per carry average) and Travis Whiteside (371 yards rushing and a 8.6 average) have combined to score nine TDs and lead the offense, which hopes to get back on track after facing the two best teams in the district in Scurry-Rosser and Tolar the last two weeks.

    Kaylana Dickson got the name Bebop on her way to winning a national title in gymnastics this summer, and boy did it catch fire.
    Kaylana, a Corsicana native, picked up fans from all over the country and many bought Bebop T-shirts to help pay her expenses to Spokane, Wa., where she won the 8-and-under title in the double-mini trampoline event and finished third in floor exercise.
    More than 100 of her friends, family members and fans showed up at the Corsicana YMCA on Saturday to celebrate the national title and be on hand for a drawing for an autographed New Orleans Saints football jersey from David Hawthorne, a star defensive lineman for the Saints and Kaylana's uncle
