Behind Cory Solomon’s 170 yards rushing and three touchdowns, the Tolar Rattlers topped the Rice Bulldogs, 38-17, in District 6-2A DII play Friday night. With the win, Tolar improves to 7-2, 5-1 in district play, while the Bulldogs drop to 3-6, 2-4 with one week left in the regular season.
After allowing Solomon to do most of the damage in the first half and falling behind by three scores, the Bulldogs battled back in the third quarter using an Austin Peppers 15-yard touchdown to close the gap to 31-17. But, on a play eerily reminiscent of last week’s last second loss to Mildred, Tolar scored late on a fourth day pass play, in the same end zone as last week, to Dalton Shaw to give the Rattlers the cushion they needed for the win.
Adan Payne led the Bulldogs in rushing, gaining 65 yards on only four carries, while Daniel Arteaga caught two passes for 84 yards. Chris Atchley added a touchdown, and Jesus Garcia added a 34-yard field goal for Rice. Shaw finished the night with four catches for 64 yards and the one score for the Rattlers.
Next week, Rice travels to Dallas to take on the Oak Cliff Life Lions, while Tolar hosts Rio Vista.
