UIL: State releases cutoff numbers for new 6 classification alignment

From Staff Reports
Corsicana Daily Sun

AUSTIN — The University Interscholastic League released the conference cutoff numbers for the 2014-2016 reclassification and realignment on Monday and although the UIL is moving to six classifications, the new numbers don’t affect any of the nine schools in the Golden Circle — other than adding an A to their classifications.

The new classifications are based on moving 6-man football to 1A footbball and bumping everyone else up, while cutting off the largest classification — Class 6A — at 2,100 students.

In the Golden Circle, all Class A schools will simply move to Class 2A, and 2A schools will be classified in 3A next year. Corsicana will move from Class 4A to Class 5A.

The new district alignments will be released in February.

The 2014-16 alignments will be released on Feb. 3 for football and basketball.

Those realignments could affect teams in the Golden Circle, especially Corsicana, which is currently playing in District 16-4A, a district loaded with teams from East Texas.

There is speculation Corsicana will be moved to a nw district when the district alignments are released on Feb. 3 for football and basketball.

District alignments for other activities will be released in the order of their seasons.
