Game 2: Mildred 5, Salado 4

The Mildred Lady Eagles survived to play another game Saturday in their area round playoff series with the Salado Lady Eagles.

After losing the first game on Friday 8-3, the Lady Eagles came from behind in game two on Saturday to force a decisive game three.

Down 2-0 in the fourth inning, Savannah Pritchett drew a lead-off walk and Brianna Weaver layed down a sacrifice bunt to advance her to second. Morgan McCreary then hit an RBI single to leftfield to make the score 2-1.

In the fifth inning, Maddie Moore hit a lead-off double and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Salado left-fielder. Olivia Farmer then drove in Moore to tie the game at 2-2. Joanna Tapley then singled to rightfield and took second on an error by the rightfielder. With runners at second and third with one out, Callie Bland hit a hard grounder to the Salado shortstop. Pinch-runner Lauren Hawkins broke for home on the play and after a collision at home plate, the ball was knocked loose and she was safe. Tapley, seeing the catcher laying on the ground and the ball loose, never slowed down and crossed the plate for a 4-2 lead.

Salado would score one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and the score remained 4-3 until the seventh inning.

In the top of the seventh, Farmer singled to start the inning and then stole second. Tapley then hit and RBI single and the Eagles led 5-3 going to the bottom of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, Salado was able to score one run on three hits but a grounder to Pritchett at first-base ended the game. Aubyn Turner picked up the win on the mound for Mildred.
