Navarro catcher John Clay Reeves was named Player of the Year and Lukas Schiraldi was tabbed Pitcher of the Year on the 2013 Region XIV East All-Conference Baseball Team.
Reeves, a sophomore transfer from Arkansas, batted .372 with three home runs and 39 RBIs. Schiraldi, a sophomore from Austin, was 10-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 67 strikeouts for the regular season.
“After looking at everybody in the conference, John Clay had the best numbers and everybody picked him,” Navarro coach Whoa Dill said. “Lukas was a slam dunk. We didn’t even vote. We all just said it was unanimous and just went on and picked the rest of the team.”
Top-seed Navarro will begin the Region XIV Tournament on Saturday in Lufkin with a first-round game against Galveston at 5 p.m.
The Bulldogs had six players make first-team all-conference — sophomore pitchers Chad Young and Gage Curry, sophomore second baseman Drake Roberts, shortstop Mason Salazar, freshman outfielder Jovan Hernandez and sophomore designated hitter Tyler Wilson.
Navarro’s second-team selections were sophomore pitcher Blake Griffin, freshman outfielder J.P. Phillips and designated hitter Campbell Cooper.
“It was good to see the freshmen get it,” Dill said. “We had a good showing. I was happy with it.”
