The finest Kerens baseball season in three decades came to an end Saturday, when Simms Bowie knocked the Bobcats out of the playoffs with a series-ending 13-5 win in Union Grove.
Just as it did in Game 1 of the series Friday, Bowie raced out to a 6-0 lead, and Kerens simply could not overcome it.
The Bobcats (19-7) had seven hits, and scored at least a run in the third through sixth innings. But Bowie (19-7) added three in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
D.J. Kamp led the Bobcats on offense in his final game in green, as he went 3 for 5 at the plate. Brett Anderson, Dylan Woods, Ian Salas and Kevin Townsel added hits.
Jayson Engel’s Bobcats were ranked in the top 10 for much of the season, and beat Overton last week to record the school’s first playoff series win in 32 seasons.
Dawson 5-10, Dodd City 4-2: Dawson needed to win two games Saturday to move on, and the Bulldogs did just that, beating Dodd City 5-4 and 10-2 in Region II-1A area play. The Bulldogs will now face Muenster next week.
Dodd City won the opener of the series Friday, 8-1.
Trenton 12, Wortham 2: Trenton swept Wortham, beating the Bulldogs Saturday, 12-2, to close out the series, 2-0. Trenton won the opener, 8-5, on Friday.
