The Tigers volleyball team finished off the exact kind of week they needed Friday afternoon.
The Tigers, trying to climb back into the District 16-4A race, beat Jacksonville 25-9, 25-15, 25-5 on Friday night at Tiger Gym.
Corsicana (13-10, 2-3) won its second straight match and finished off the first half of district on a winning streak.
“We just dominated,” senior Maddie Andrews said. “Our hitting and serving has been getting so much better.”
The Tigers showed that in making quick work of Jacksonville. Sophomore Josey Saipongi said the Tigers have turned around their fate in the district race.
“We’ve been working really hard in our practices and wanting to win this whole season,” Saipongi said.
Andrews, Josey Saipongi, Jordan Terry and Jennifer Saipongi each had two kills. Mychall Andrews had five blocks and Tamera White had four. White had five aces, Becca Bentz two and Briana Biltz one. Andrews had 10 digs, Jennifer Garcia had eight, Jessica Hasugulig had seven, Josey Saipongi had six, Teleia Braziel had four and Jasmine Estelle had three.
Rice sweeps Blooming Grove: Sarah Gent was perfect on 25 serves and had five aces as Rice swept Blooming Grove 25-6, 25-9, 25-11 on Friday night.
Gent also had a kill, a save, three digs and 12 assists. Ashton Metcalfe was 15 of 15 serving and with a dig. Hanna Owens was 8 of 8 serving with four assists, a save and two digs. Celina Smithers had 12 kills, two blocks, two digs and two assists. Paige Allen had four kills, two blocks and five digs. Sadie Gent had three kills, eight digs and an assist.
