GC Basketball Roundup: Blooming Grove cancels tournament, Cana boys win, Cana girls split, Kerens, Frost girls roll

Corsicana — The weather forced Blooming Grove to cancel the final two days of its boys basketball tournament. In the opening round games on Thursday, Blooming Grove won two games, beating Axtell 69-31 and drubbing NCA 71-46. Dawson beat Axtell 55-51 and Wortham beat Frost 51-35 and then lost to Malakoff 55-46 in its second game.


Corsicana 65, Frisco Legacy 25

Jamaal Evans led the way with 13 points and Mike Lewis and Jonah McKissiack each scored 11 to lead the Tigers.



Sunnyvale 54, Corsicana 38

Corsicana 44, Palestine Westwood 38.

Corsicana’s Lady Tigers (10-3) split a pair of games in  Canton, losing to state-ranked and unbeaten Sunnyvale, which pulled away in the fourth quarter, and beating Westwood in a close game. Sophomore Alexis Baston had a season high 19, and sophomore Destini Lunsford chipped in 9 and was perfect from the free throw line going 5 for 5 against Westwood as Corsicana went a season-best 15 for 17 from the line.


Kerens 55, Scurry-Rosser 27

Kerens 60, Kemp 46

Breanna Wells dropped in 15 points, Marqueshia Kelly scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds and Kayla Kilcrease added seven points in the win over Scurry-Rosser while Taylor Ames led the way with 21 points and Cambree Betts scored 15 against Kemp to help Kerens improve to 5-1.


 Frost 48, Abbott 27

Diana Rios led the way with 15 points and Jae Moore (12) and Madison Revill (11), Heather Montgomery (8) and Kaycee Bowling (2) helped Frost, which is ranked fourth in the state, stay unbeaten at 6-0.

    Kaylana Dickson got the name Bebop on her way to winning a national title in gymnastics this summer, and boy did it catch fire.
    Kaylana, a Corsicana native, picked up fans from all over the country and many bought Bebop T-shirts to help pay her expenses to Spokane, Wa., where she won the 8-and-under title in the double-mini trampoline event and finished third in floor exercise.
    More than 100 of her friends, family members and fans showed up at the Corsicana YMCA on Saturday to celebrate the national title and be on hand for a drawing for an autographed New Orleans Saints football jersey from David Hawthorne, a star defensive lineman for the Saints and Kaylana's uncle
