Lions crush Milford 51-36, move into consolation final

Corsicana — The Blooming Grove Lions used balanced scoring to even up their record at the Kiwanis Classic after falling to defending champion Kerens a day earlier.

Juanya Pyburn scored 19 points as the Lions moved into the consolation final with a 51-36 victory over Milford on Friday at the K. and Ida Wolens Special Events Center.

Daniel Pelzel added 13, while Jacob Conger tallied 12 for Blooming Grove (11-5).  Rowdy Barlow played well in the paint, blocking 7 shots and grabbing 6 rebounds.

Eric Evans led Milford in scoring with 16.

Rice 58, Dawson 35: The Rice Bulldogs defeated the Dawson Bulldogs 58-35 on Friday morning in the first boys consolation semifinal of the Kiwanis classic.

Rice (9-8) had trouble getting shots to fall, but were able to grab rebounds and get a lot of easy put backs and converted on many second chance points.

Dalton Pike led Rice with 17 points. Daniel Arteaga and Ragan Henderson each added 12 points for the Bulldogs.

Louis Lachney was the high-point scorer for Dawson with 12 points.

GIRLS

Dawson 29, Rice 23: Stephanie Lindsey scored 17 points, including the first 10 points of the game, as Dawson held off Rice 29-23 in the first consolation game of the day on Friday morning.

Dawson pulled away with its defense in the third quarter, allowing only one point. The Lady Bulldogs built a 22-12 lead heading into the final quarter.

Celina Smithers scored nine points despite leaving the game briefly in the third quarter with an injury.

Hubbard 63, Blooming Grove 31: Nakaila Banks kept up her hot shooting in the tournament, scoring 27 points as Hubbard coasted past Blooming Grove 63-31 in a consolation game Friday.

Banks has scored 50 points in two games. Pepci Jones had eight points and Tia Parks and Dallas Fletcher each had seven points for the Lady Jaguars.

Treounah Wiggins scored seven points for Blooming Grove, which fell to 8-11 on the season.
