Kiwanis Classic Roundup: Hubbard beats Frost in 3rd-Place Game

Teague girls beat Mildred 59-54

Corsicana — Jordan Johnson came back after missing Friday's game with a big effort, scoring 12 points as Hubbard survived an intense game with district foe Frost, winning 46-42 in the Third-place Game Saturday night.

Dylan Harris had a solid game inside for Hubbard, scoring 10 points. D'Warren Simmons, the Jaguars' most consistent scorer in the tournament, added eight points.

Danial Steels, an all-tournament selection, finished with 12 points. Andrew Jackson added 10 points for the Polar Bears, who were playing in their tournament of the season.

Blooming Grove 61, Rice 53: In what was one of the best games of the tournament so far, the Blooming Grove Lions outlasted the Rice Bulldogs in a 61-53 thriller in the Boys Consolation Final on Saturday afternoon.

The game was close all the way up to the finish. Rice took a 37-35 lead into the fourth quarter, but couldn't stop Juanya Pyburn and the Lions who outscored the Dogs 26-16 in the fourth, 13 of which came from Pyburn.

Pyburn had a huge day for the Lions, scoring 30 points while also grabbing 7 boards. Rice's offense was powered by a 24 point, 11-rebound performance by Dalton Pike.

Milford 47, Dawson 37: In a back and forth battle that proved to be one of the better games of the tournament, the Milford Bulldogs outlasted the Dawson Bulldogs 47-37 in the 7th-place game on Saturday morning.

Dawson went on a 7-0 run late in the fourth to drop the Milford lead to four, but Milford answered back with a 7-0 run of its own to close out the contest.

Eric Evans led Milford with 17 points while Jairus Russell nailed four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points. Louis Lachney had 16 points for Dawson.

GIRLS

Teague 59, Mildred 54: Kyera Abram and the Teague Lady Lions defeated the Mildred Lady Eagles 59-54 in the Third-place match Saturday night.

The Lady Eagles fought valiantly and with some stellar play by freshman Maddie Moore, they were able to keep it close. Teague seemed to always have an answer, and were able to hold off Mildred at the end.

Abram had a team high 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Lions.

Olivia Farmer, Shelby Adamson, and Maddie Moore all tallied 14 for the Lady Eagles.

Hubbard 71, Dawson 30: The Hubbard Lady Jaguars routed the Dawson Lady Bulldogs 71-30 in the Girls Consolation Final on Saturday.

Nakaila Banks led her Lady Jags in the lopsided match with 16 points, while Parks added 14 of her own. Banks finished the three games with a tournament-high 66 points.

Michaela Greer scored a team-high 14 for the Lady Bulldogs.

Rice 46, Blooming Grove 43: Hanna Owens scored 14 points as Rice held on for a 46-43 victory over Blooming Grove in the 7th-place game Saturday morning.

Celina Smithers had another solid game for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 13 points.

Daveshia Starling had 11 points and Sidney Horner nine points for the Lady Lions.
