Corsicana — The Lady Tigers desperately needed to get their offense going in the second half of Tuesday night’s game against Jacksonville. That’s if they wanted to play their way back into the District 16-4A playoff race.

Corsicana got that scoring from the players that needed to get their offense going.

Calae Wilson scored 14 points and Erica Melendez had eight points as the Lady Tigers revved up their offense in the second half and topped Jacksonville 39-35 at Tiger Gym.

Wilson, who runs Corsicana’s offense, doubled her scoring from Friday’s loss in Whitehouse. Wilson scored nine points in the third quarter as the Lady Tigers extended a 14-13 halftime lead to 29-22 headed to the final period.

Melendez, the Lady Tigers’ best inside-outside player, snapped out of a shooting slump with two crucial baskets in the second half.

Corsicana built its lead to eight points in the second half and still had to hang on as Jacksonville rallied in the fourth quarter.

Jacksonville’s Chancii Scott, who had a game-high 19 points, scored to make it 34-33 with less than two minutes left. Lady Tigers guard Shamara Taylor responded, sinking two free throws with 50 seconds left for a 36-33 lead.

Tamera White, Wilson and Taylor all made free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.

The Lady Tigers moved into a three-way tie with Jacksonville and Tyler John Tyler for the final playoff spot in 16-4A. They play one John Tyler at home Friday night to close out the first half of the 16-4A schedule.
