CHS Soccer: Tigers look to bounce back against Lancaster

Corsicana plays first district home games Friday night at Tiger Stadium

Corsicana — The Tiger soccer teams play their first district home games Friday night against Lancaster at Tiger Stadium.

They’ll each try and bounce back after losses against playoff contender Waxahachie on Tuesday night, matches in which both Corsicana teams played well but lost.

The Tiger boys lost to the Indians 2-0, allowing two second-half goals.

“We had our opportunities to put the game away early but couldn’t capitalize and we let Waxahachie stay in the game,” Tigers coach Stan Jones said. “They took advantage of their chances and scored two second half goals.”

Still, the boys have a 6-5-1 overall record, already matching their win total from the 2012 season.

Meanwhile, the Tiger girls, off to a 7-3-3 record, lost to Waxahachie 2-1 in their district opener. The Tigers fell behind 2-0 and couldn’t complete the rally.

“We had several opportunities but like in the boys game they just weren’t falling,” Jones said.

There are still nine district matches remaining, so there’s plenty of time for both teams to respond.

“The district season is still young and the teams are very motivated for Friday against Lancaster,” Jones said. “The boys are in a must-win situation so it will be exciting to see how they respond.”

Dawson's Lane Dotson was a second-team outfielder, and the Bulldogs' Trent Underwood made the third-team as a pitcher, and also garnered an honorable mention nod at first base. Kerens outfielder Brent Warren was also an honorable mention pick.

If there is anything more useless than a political promise, it’s an all-star game. I don’t care what sport at what level. Any all-star game is simply an exhibition, a reward for being among the best (maybe). Any one of them is about as relevant as the IRS’s “dog ate my homework” excuse for losing emails.
