Region XIV Softball: Bulldogs stay alive, beat Galveston

Navarro scores 8 runs in first inning, wins 14-2

Corsicana —

If there was any question as to how the Navarro Bulldogs would respond after a disappointing opening day loss in the NJCAA Region XIV Softball Tournament, they were answered with an eight-run first inning against the Galveston Whitecaps.
It helped the Bulldogs win in five innings, 14-2, setting up an elimination game against the Paris-Northeast loser at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Bulldogs had seven hits in the inning, including a three-run home run over the left field wall by freshman Megan Noel. Galveston starting pitcher Kacy Freeze lasted two-thirds of an inning before Matti Aycock came in to record the last out of the inning.
The Whitecaps were able to push two runs across the plate in the third inning on RBI hits from Heather Wilson and Alexis Dunn but they did not have another baserunner in the game.
Britney Bledsoe and Kaycee Spears both pitched well for the Bulldogs only giving up five hits in the game.
