It was an All-Golden Circle landslide on Thursday when five players from two Golden Circle teams were named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class 1A All-State girls basketball team.
Three members of the Kerens LadyCats basketball team were named to the TGCA All-State basketball team, and two players from Frost earned All-State honors on the team that was announced on Thursday.
Kerens seniors Taylor Ames and Cambree Betts and junior Breanna Baxter were all named to the All-State team. They helped lead Kerens to the Class 1A DI state title game and a 29-5 record.
Ames averaged 16 points and 3.2 rebounds a game from her guard spot, and had a remarkable run through the playoffs, where she averaged more than 20 points a game.
Betts averaged 12 points and 2.6 assists per game for the season and also stepped up big during the playoff run in which Kerens forced 158 turnovers during their final five games.
Baxter was the District 18-1A DI Player of the Year and she also won the Kiwanis Tournament MVP award in December. She averaged 14.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists.
Frost sophomore Jae Moore and senior Diana Rios were both named to the team.
Moore averaged 20.4 points and 9.5 rebounds and led the team all year and Rios did a little of everything to help Frost reach the Class 1A DI Regionals. Rios averaged 13.3 points, 4.4 assists and 4.3 steals per game.
