Senior catcher Steely Southard scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday night to lift Blooming Grove to a 6-5 win over sixth-ranked Mildred, forcing a tie for first place in the District 23-2A softball standings.
Both teams have one district loss.
Falcon Thompson earned the mound win for BG. She scattered 10 hits over eight innings, allowing one earned run while striking out five batters and walking four.
Mildred scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Lions responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the side to force the extra inning. Sarah Conger was hit by a pitch and Brooke Koscielniak reached on a fielder's choice, and then both crossed home plate on Mariah Horner's two-run single to right-center field.
Horner and Southard both finished 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Blooming Grove.
Southard scored a run, drove in another and stole two bases, while Horner scored one and drove in two. Danielle Lima was 2 for 2 and scored a run, while Sidney Horner finished 2 for 4, scored once and stole a base.
Brittany Nichols had an RBI-single for Blooming Grove, while Koscielniak and Rachel East also had hits.
Frost 7, Italy 2
Jae Moore improved to 6-0 on the mound while Hillaree Schwartz went 2 for 3, scored twice and drove in two runs to lead Frost at the plate. Madison Revill went 2 for 4 and drove in two runs and Jennifer Andrews went 1 for with a triple.
The Lady Polar Bears are now 6-0 overall and 2-0 in district play.

Every player on the Rice team got a hit and scored a run in the rout.

Garrett Weaver pitched a five-inning no-hitter went 3 for 3 at the plate to lead Rice to the lopsided district win. Reece Whitt (2 for 5), Conner Roberts (5 for 5), Jamie Metcalfe ( 4 for 5), Max Mena (3 for 5), Cole Metcalfe (2 for 4), Adan Payne ( 1 for 3), Chase McCall (2 for 4), Nate Bowling (1 for 1) and Peyton Allen (1 for 1) all had hits for the Bulldogs.
