GC Roundup: Mildred comes back to beat Malakoff 15-11, Frost edges Itasca 3-2 (Adds Dawson baseball)

Frost 3, Itasca 2

Frost stayed unbeaten in district play with a big win over Itasca, which entered the game unbeaten in district.

Frost won the showdown Tuesday and is now 4-0 in District 12-1A and Itasca is 4-1. The Lady Polar Bears, who scored in the bottom of the fifth to break a 2-2 tie, are 8-0 for the season.

Jae Moore went the distance to improve to 8-0. She struck out 11 and allowed just five hits. Karlie Scott went 2 for 3 with a double and drove in three runs to lead Frost at the plate. Kaycee Bowling went 1 for 2 and scored twice, and Hillaree Schwartz went 1 for 3 with a stolen base.

Baseball

Dawson 1, Wortham 0

A dominating pitching performance by Trent Underwood carried Dawson to a 1-0 win over Wortham on a walk off single by freshman Justin Gray in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Gray plated Seth Lachney, who had earlier singled.

Underwood had 12 strikeouts on the evening and kept Wortham off balance at the plate all night. Also ollecting hits for Dawson were Dalton Long (2-3, bb), Justin Gray (1-4, RBI), Lane Dotson (2-3), Trent Underwood (1-3), Mason Burleson (1-3) and Connor McEntire (1-3).
