LEANDER — Ben Goodrich had a walk-off double to plate two runs, lifting the Tigers to an 8-7 victory over Hutto and capping a two-win day for Corsicana at the Leander LISD Baseball Classic.

Goodrich’s game-winning hit came during a one-out rally for the Tigers. Bobby Lopez had a one-out double, Zane Otten walked and Zach Rash had a drag bunt for a single to load the bases. Hutto changed pitchers and Goodrich greeted the new Hippos hurler with a double to right field.

It was the third win in three games for Tiger Nation over the Hippo Nation. Corsicana swept a bi-district playoff series from Hutto last spring.

Corsicana (6-3) also defeated Leander Rouse 4-2 in its opening game of the tournament on Thursday.

“A total team effort,” Tigers coach Heath Autrey said. “Ben came up big. He had a really big day offensively. It was a really good day for our team.”

The Tigers’ bullpen came through against Hutto, keeping Corsicana in the game. Tyler Casbeer had three strong innings. Jeremy Fowler worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the top of the fifth, getting a force-out at home and an inning-ending strikeout on four straight sliders.

The Tigers won the game in the bottom of the fifth (tournament games have a time limit).

In the opening game, Goodrich got the win in relief as the Tigers beat Rouse. Fowler got the save.

The Tigers played solid defense with Reid Folmar making several phenomenal plays at second base and catcher Zach Rash doing a great job behind the plate.

Corsicana overcame a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the sixth inning. Aaron Cantu reached on error and Brady Harlan singled. They were moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Layton Wolver.

Trevor Nolen then hit a smash that turned into a Rouse error, tying the score at 2-2. Holden Grounds gave the Tigers the lead with a safety squeeze.

The Tigers got an insurance run on a RBI single by Brady Harlan in the top of the seventh.

The Tigers play Laredo Martin at 2 p.m. and Cedar Park Vista Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. They play Leander at 9:30 a.m. and Salado at noon on Saturday.
