Mildred’s Nic Shimonek has been selected to play in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game, scheduled for June 15 in Round Rock. It is one of two all-star games he will play in this summer, as he is also scheduled to compete in the football version in July.
Shimonek is an outfield pick for the 1A-2A-3A’s South team, made up from players in regions III and IV.
The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Round Rock’s Dell Diamond. The 4A-5A game follows at 7 p.m.
Shimonek, who will graduate from Mildred a week before the game, was named the District 23-2A most valuable player. He hit .514 this year, with 27 RBIs and 19 extra basehits.
His older brother Jake played for the North team in the all-star game in 2009, going 1 for 3.
Shimonek is also scheduled to play in the Texas High School Coaches Association’s All-Star football game July 30 in Fort Worth, where he will represent the North all-stars. Last fall’s Del Thrash Golden Circle Player of the Year led the Eagles to the Class 2A-DII state title game, and is the first Mildred player ever selected to participate in the football game.
