Golden hue: Area football, volleyball, cheer and coach converge on Waco for Victory Bowl

Corsicana — A golden tint may well hover over the Super Centex Bowl activities this weekend. Sixteen Golden Circle representatives are scheduled to participate in the week, including 10 football players.

The inaugural Fellowship of Christian Athletes Victory Bowl Volleyball game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday at University High School.

The sixth annual FCA Victory Bowl Football game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at WACO ISD Stadium.

The week will kick off Wednesday when the 92 football players, 24 volleyball players, 20 cheerleaders and 16 area head coaches who make up this year’s sixth annual event arrive. They represent nearly 70 Central Texas high schools, according to a Victory Bowl press release.

Making up bowl week will be five practices, five local outreaches, trips to the Dr Pepper History Museum, a Pancake Eating Contest, a Pep Rally, and most importantly the games.

At the conclusion of each game, the Volleyball MVP and Bob McQueen Offensive and Defensive MVPs in football will be announced.

Tickets for each game are $5 and will be sold on game day or can be purchased by calling 254-717-5451. The volleyball game will be played at 12:30 p.m. at University High School, and doors will open at 11 a.m., and parking for the volleyball game is free.

The football game will be played at 6:30 pm at Waco ISD Stadium, and gates will open at 5 p.m. Parking for the football game is $5.

Game programs and merchandise will also be available for purchase. All proceeds go to support the local Heart of Texas FCA Ministry.

    More than 100 of her friends, family members and fans showed up at the Corsicana YMCA on Saturday to celebrate the national title and be on hand for a drawing for an autographed New Orleans Saints football jersey from David Hawthorne, a star defensive lineman for the Saints and Kaylana's uncle
