RECORDS: Class 1A Hubbard is 6-2, 2-0 in District 9-1A DII. Dawson is 0-8, 0-2.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Hubbard: FB/LB Trey Henderson, WR/DB D’Warren Simmons, QB Casen Martin, OL/DL Kenyon Mathis. Dawson: RB/DE Lane Dubose, OL/DL Michael Williams, WR/DB Duncan Abdo, OL/DL Zack James.

UPDATE:  Dawson hosts the 2012 edition of the Battle of Highway 31 against the Jaguars Friday night … the Bulldogs have shown flashes throughout the season, but have struggled with mistakes … last week Dawson committed six turnovers and racked up 90 penalty yards in its loss to Frost … Hubbard looks to remain undefeated in district play and atop the league standings … last Friday the Jaguars blanked Wortham behind a 38-point first half … Hubbard’s defense held Wortham to 108 yards of offense and recorded four interceptions … last year’s meeting between these two squads went all the Jags’ way … Hubbard rolled over Dawson, 80-5, carried by a 268-yard, three TD rushing performance by RB Bradley Walker.

: Class 1A Frost is 8-1, 2-1 in Dist. 9-1A DII. Meridian is 2-6, 1-1.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Frost: LB Colton Clayton, TE Cody Campbell, DT Raymundo Hernandez, QB Jacob Stroder, RB Robert Worley. Meridian: WR Jacob Butler, RB/DB Johnny Lira, QB/DB Nick Prestwood, WR/DE Adrian Rapoz, OL Will Speer.

UPDATE: Last week in Frost’s 45-6 victory over Dawson, Worley churned up 111 yards and a touchdown while Danial Steels ripped off 156 yards and two TDs … DT Maliko Bruce blocked a punt and LB Colton McGill returned it 30 yards for a touchdown … the Polar Bears’ defense has 15 interceptions and 331 interception return yards on the season ... Worley has interceptions returns of 44 and 55 yards for touchdowns while Steels has a 35-yard return for a score ... Stroder leads the team with 5 thefts… Meridian had a bye last week after beating Dawson prior to its bye week 20-6 to keep its playoff hopes alive ... Meridian will be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss, but an upset puts this onus on Wortham to win its final game … Lira carried for 152 and a TD against Dawson.

Kerens at Itasca

: Class 1A Kerens is 4-4, 2-1 in District 6-1A D1. Itasca is 1-7, 0-3.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Kerens: QB/DB Nate Betts, RB Rayvon Faulk, DT Dylan Woods, WR/DB Brett Anderson, OG William Pugh. Itasca: RB/LB Ashton Campbell, RB/LB Tamarus Sheppard, OT/DT Christian Cruz, QB/FS Brandon Farqhar, QB/LB Cole Coleman.

UPDATE: After dropping their first district game by a total of three points, Kerens has won the last two district games in convincing fashion ... the Bobcats’ offense has scored 112 points and the defense has given up 51 ... Itasca is struggling in its district games, including last week’s 14-9 loss to Dallas Gateway, because of injuries to a host of skill people ... Sheppard was being counted on to carry the load in the backfield, but a high ankle sprain has limited his playing time to mostly defense ... Betts is closing in on a 1,000-yard rushing year ... he has 848 yards and six TDs on 128 carries ... the Bobcats’ two-headed monster at tailback continues to improve ... Faulk and Adreon Davis have combined for 914 yards and 14 TDs ... Anderson has 489 yards on 23 receptions.

Mildred at Dallas Oak Cliff Life

: Class 2A Mildred is 7-1, 5-0 in District 6-2A DII. Dallas Oak Cliff Life is 1-7, 1-4.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Mildred: L Nic Stone, WR/DB Raleigh Seilheimer, LB/K Devin O’Sullivan, L Taylor Barlow. Life: L Quinton Carroll, WR Montrel Williams, RB Brandon Jackson, LB Derek Peace.

UPDATE: Mildred is coming off a 79-0 win over Rice, the most points in school history … Life beat Millsap, 49-0 … the Eagles can clinch their second straight district title with a win … Mildred is averaging 66 points per game in district … QB Nic Shimonek is three completions from 500 in his career … O’Sullivan is averaging 6.6 tackles per game, and has 31 solo stops, both second on the team … the Eagles have forced 12 turnovers in the last three games … Life was picked second in 6-2A DII by Texas Football, but has struggled … the Lions have shown the ability to score, averaging 43.7 points per game over the last three, two of which were losses, 59-40 to Blooming Grove and 46-42 to Rio Vista … Mildred beat those two teams by a combined score of 118-7.

Rice at Tolar

At Rattlers Stadium

: Class 2A Rice is 3-5, 2-3 in 6-2A DII. Tolar is 6-2, 4-1.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Rice: WR/DB Victor Ortega, OL/DL Jon Ortiz, TE/LB Noah McBryde, WR/DB Austin Peppers.  Tolar: QB/DB Corbin Wood, RB/LB Cory Solomon, WR/DB Zack Hasegawa, OL/DL Weston Phillips.

UPDATE:  First ever meeting between the two schools... Rice fell below .500 in district play with last week’s loss to Mildred… The Rattlers moved into sole possession of second place in 6-2A DII with a 42-14 win over Blooming Grove… After having a two-game winning streak snapped, Rice needs a win this week to stay in the playoff hunt… Bulldog RB Ragan Henderson was held to 71 yards last week, the first time since Week Zero that he has been held under 100 yards… Angel Oropeza led the Bulldogs in the second half offensively last week… Henderson needs 21 yards this week to eclipse the 1,500-yard mark for the season… Junior RB Cory Solomon had three rushing TDs last week to pace Tolar… Corbin Wood found Zack Hasegawa for two TDs last week to give Tolar a big lead.

Rio Vista at Blooming Grove

: Class 2A Blooming Grove is 6-2, 3-2 in District 6-2A DII. Rio Vista is 3-5, 2-3.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Blooming Grove: QB/S Jayd Kirby, RB/LB Travis Whiteside, WR/S Brandon Hays, C/LB Shane Battenfield. Rio Vista: QB Nick Russell, RB/DB Sean Worlow, FB/DB Jacob Stanley, OL/DL Collin Odell.

UPDATE: Blooming Grove can secure a playpff berth with a win over the Eagles this week … QB Kirby rushed for 100 yards and was 7-of-17 passing last week against Tolar. Hays had three receptions for 53 yards, including a 45-yard TD pass, while Whiteside caught two passes for 39 yards … linebacker Ben Nicholson led the defense with 10 tackles, Kirby had seven, Anthony Black recorded six, and Dalton Thornton and Dalton Wasinger each had five … Rio Vista has two district wins – a 31-7 decision over Millsap and a 46-42 victory over Dallas Life.
