GC Volleyball: Roundup Kerens sails after being ranked No. 6 in state; Rice wins district game against Marlin, Frost, Wortham win district matches

Rice picks up first district win

Rice’s volleyball team defeated Marlin on Tuesday night, 25-11, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, in a District 23-2A match. Rice is now 1-3 in district.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Briana Weaver (11 of 13 serving, 1 ace, 6 kills, 6 assists, 6 digs), Samantha Harris (22 of 22 serving, 8 aces, 6 kills), Kamran McGee (2 kills, 4 blocks), Sadie Gent (13 of 13 serving, 3 aces, 7 kills, 10 digs), Ashton Metcalfe (16 of 18 serving, 3 aces) and

Emily Fletcher (15 of 16 serving, 1 ace , 5 assist).

 

Frost cools down Italy in 3

The Frost Lady Polar Bears improved their season record to 17-7 on the year with a sweep of Italy in 3 sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-11, 26-14. Leading the way for the Lady Bears were Heather Montgomery (8 kills, 1 block, 2 aces), Hillaree Sshwartz (4 kills, 4 assists, 3 digs, 3 aces), Jae Moore (10 kills, 1 block, 8 digs, 3 aces) Kaycee Bowling (15 assists, 1 ace), and Madison Revil (3 kills, 3 aces).

Wortham wins in 4

The Wortham Lady Bulldogs overcame Dawson Tuesday night in 4 sets, 25-21, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15. Wortham has won their last 4 games against Coolidge, Hubbard, Trinidad and Dawson to improve their season record to 18-11. The Lady Bulldog’s are 5-1 in district play. Leading the Lady Bulldog’s over the last four games were Elisha Libhart (18 kills, 1 block), Kiera Busby (10 kills, 4 blocks), Hannah McCord (13 kills, 1 block), Camey Shafer ( 10 of 10 serving, 4 aces, 4 kills, 8 blocks), Ashley Anderson ( 24 of 25 serving, 5 aces).
