Navarro Football: Bulldogs roll past Cisco, 58-10

Corsicana — CISCO — Tim Wright and Devin Lauderdale both had three touchdowns and the defense allowed less than 200 yards total offense as No. 2-ranked Navarro rolled past Cisco, 58-10, on Thursday at Chesley Field.

Wright rushed for a game-high 156 yards on 17 carries, scoring on runs of 28, 5 and 7 yards as the Bulldogs scored 30 straight points after falling behind 3-0 on Cisco’s first possession.

When Wright wasn’t lighting up the Cisco defense, it was the passing combination of quarterback Josh Greer and Lauderdale. They hooked up from 22 yards to open the second quarter and just before the half connected again from 79 yards.

Cisco (0-2, 0-1) managed 195 yards offense, 66 coming on a touchdown on the first play of the third period.

Navarro responded with 28 straight points. Cameron Washington rambled for a 5-yard TD, the Greer-to-Lauderdale combo went for a 59-yard TD completion and Wright scored from 7 yards. Backup quarterback Alex Allen added a 6-yard scoring run in the waning minutes for the Bulldogs (3-0, 1-0). Allen completed 2 of 4 passes for 24 yards.

Greer completed 21 of 28 passes for 300 yards. Greer is completing an uber-efficient 66.2 percent of his attempts this season.

Lauderdale was Greer’s favorite receiver with six receptions for 181 yards. Fellow receiver Austin Collins had seven catches for 62 yards in the first half.

Navarro churned 575 yards total offense and 29 first downs. Cisco’s offense struggled, particularly on the ground, where it managed just 32 yards on 34 attempts.

Save for the long touchdown pass, the Navarro defense yielded little to Cisco, keeping the Wranglers between the 20s much of the game while forcing four fumbles. Navarro eventually pulled its starters after three quarters, but the Bulldog reserves stymied a Cisco offense that used three quarterbacks.

Linebacker Chrishard Buhl recovered the lone lost fumble and cornerback Sherman Gilbert picked off a pass to set up the first Greer-to-Lauderdale touchdown in the second period.

Backup running back Ke’aun Kinner added 50 yards on eight fourth-quarter attempts, and Washington added 48 yards and touchdown rushing in addition to three catches.

Starting receiver Markel Steward-Gillespie recorded two catches for 18 yards and second-teamer Kailon Carter caught a pair of Allen passes for 21 yards late in the fourth period.

Minutes after Navarro split a doubleheader with Paris on Wednesday, Navarro softball Coach Jessica Karenke was told her Bulldogs had just been nationally ranked and are now No. 16 in the NJCAA national softball poll.
    She had no idea.
    And she didn't care.
Karenke is worried about what happens on the diamond, and she had some concerns after Navarro made four errors in the second game that opened the door for Paris to pull off a 7-2 win after the Bulldogs and Ciara Luna controlled the first game with a 4-1 win.
