Blooming Grove —

Blooming Grove came out firing and never stopped. Emhouse’s own David Cochran led the Lions in their potent running attack with 107 of Blooming Grove’s 382 combined rushing yards on just 12 carries. He also added a tally to their touchdowns with a 8 yard TD run in the second quarter. The lions continued their streak of excellence with an impressive 63-0 win over the Dawson Bulldogs.

Blooming Grove began their fast and furious pace of touchdowns when Jared Obenour returned Dawson’s punt from their opening series after they went 3 and out. It was all downhill from there for the bulldogs gave up touchdown after touchdown. In total they gave up 9 unanswered scores. With 7 of them coming on Blooming Groves first 7 possessions.

The Grove’s rushing total was not amassed by a single player but by a collective group of Travis Whiteside, Tyler Morris, and Daniel Camarillo. Tyler Ellis orchestrated the pride of lions but more importantly kicked in the underrated point after touchdown. Not underestimating his kickoff skills either as he put 8 of his 9 kickoffs in the back of the end zone.

Even though Ellis clearly dominated the kicking game, Dawson’s kicker and punter Tyler Huckabee wasn’t shabby either with his average punt landing 35 yards from the initial line of scrimmage.

Dawson didn’t even gain a single first down in the entire first half, and only accounted two for the game. Play after play was stopped by the overwhelming lion defense. The bulldogs racked up only 8 yards rushing from RB Dalton Long and QB Lane Dotson in the first two quarters of play and a minor 3 coming via airmail.

In the second half Ellis handed over the reins to his backup Brody Owens who helped put the nail in the coffin with the final 2 touchdowns. Daniel Camarilllo flashed down the field with 38 yard rush with 5:33 left in the third. After the bulldogs punted it back, the lions must have still been hungry as Dalton Thornton streaked down the sideline to the 1 for a 53 yard gain. He put it away himself with a short 1 yard lunge.

QB Lane Dotson gave a hint of optimism for the dogs with his quarterback keeper that resulted in a 39 yard gain. Another impressive performance for Dawson included RB Dalton Long whose stats didn’t reflect his degree of play. A positive point for the bulldogs was their ability to succeed in the penalty battle. In total the dogs only received 2 yellow flags while their opponents kept the refs busy with 7 penalty markers.
