- — Julie Anderson had a pair of RBI-doubles, including one in the top of the eighth inning, to lead Anderson-Shiro to a 3-2 win over Blooming Grove in the Class2A bi-district softball playoffs Friday.
Anderson finished 3 for 4 at the plate. Kelsey Coronado had the Fighting Owls’ only other hit and scored all three of their runs.
Anderson-Shiro advanced to the area playoffs against fourth-ranked Rogers Thursday night at 7 in Bryan.
Falcon Thompson went all eight innings on the mound for Blooming Grove. The junior southpaw allowed only two earned runs on four hits, while striking out 11 and walking only three.
The Lady Lions trailed by two runs before scoring a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, senior third baseman Lauren Miller drew a walk. Sophomore Danielle Lima, pinch-running for Miller, then took second on a passed ball. Senior second baseman Hannah Chaffin singled and moved to third on an error, allowing Lima to score. Chaffin then crossed home plate on a passed ball to tie the game.
Chaffin turned in a 2-for-3 performance, including a double and a walk, to lead Blooming Grove’s offense. Sophomore shortstop Sidney Horner was also 2 for 3, with a walk and three stolen bases.
Senior first baseman Haven Cofer and senior outfielders Alexis Goodwin and Lindsay Shuart also had hits for the Lady Lions. Goodwin and Shuart each had a stolen base as well.
Anderson pitched all eight innings for the Fighting Owls, giving up no earned runs on seven hits while fanning eight batters and walking four.
