Four. It’s the number that will be on the dry erase board at Monday’s practice in Dawson, and it represents the number of wins the Bulldogs baseball team needs to get to Austin.
The Bulldogs beat Muenster Saturday, 4-3, earning a sweep in the Region II-1A quarterfinals series.
Mark Martinez went six innings, scattering seven hits, striking out five and giving up three runs, and Louis Lachney came on in the seventh for the save. Dawson (20-7) had only four hits, but Lane Dotson and Trent Underwood made their hits count. Each had two RBIs, with one of Dotson’s coming on a hit by pitch.
With four more wins, the Bulldogs would earn a trip to the UIL Class 1A state tournament.
The Bulldogs trailed 3-0 until the fifth, when Underwood tied it with a two-RBI single. In the seventh, they took the lead when Dalton Long scored on a single by Dotson.
Dawson will face Windthorst in the regional finals. The best of three series is set for Weatherford College. Game 1 is scheduled for Thursday night at 7, while Game 2 will begin at 5 p.m. Friday. Game 3, if necessary, will follow.
