GC Softball: Mildred wins Game 2, but falls in series finale to Garrison

LINDALE —

The Mildred Lady Eagles dropped their regional semifinal series to the Garrison Lady BulldogsSaturday in Lindale. After losing a heartbreaker on Friday night, the Eagles fought back to take Game 2, 2-1, but fell in the deciding game, 3-1.

For the series, a total of eight runs were scored in the three games. All three games featured great pitching performances, great defensive plays and timely hitting.

"My girls never stopped fighting, they played with heart and I am very proud of the season they had," Mildred coach Billy Dan Chambliess said.

In Game 2, the Lady Eagles scored two runs in the third inning on a single, three infield hits and an error. Brianna Weaver singled to centerfield and Abbie Burnham laid down a bunt single to put two runners on with one out. Callie Bland followed with a bunt and a throwing error by the Garrison catcher allowed Weaver to score. Maddie Moore's RBI infield single made the score 2-0.

Garrison would score one run in the fourth inning on two hits to bring the score to 2-1.

Joanna Tapley got the win on the mound for the Lady Eagles. She scattered six hits and struck out two in her five innings of work. Aubyn Turner pitched two scoreless innings for the save. She allowed no hits and struck out one.

Mildred scored first in Game 3 when Moore hit a triple down the third base line and Olivia Farmer followed with a triple to centerfield for a 1-0 lead after three innings.

Garrison scored three runs in the fourth inning on two hits, a walk, and a fielder's choice to take the lead. It was the only two hits Garrison would have in the game.

Turner pitched 3 2/3 innings before Tapley got the last out in the fourth inning. Farmer pitched a hitless final two innings for the Lady Eagles.
