Corsicana — Navarro ace Ciera Luna was named the MVP of the Region XIV All-Conference softball team that was announced Thursday, and a total of nine Navarro players were named to either the first or second teams and head Coach Jessica Karenke and assistant coach Courtney Anderson were named the Coaches of the Year.
Luna, a freshman pitcher went 19-6 with a 1.31 ERA and struck out 111 batters in 136 2/3 innings this season in helping Navarro win the East Zone title dominated the conference with a 17-3 record. She led the way to a parade of Bulldogs who were honored, including seven who made the first team.
Four sophomores were named to the first team: Shortstop Monique Miller, who led the team in hitting with a .441 average and scored 54 runs in 48 games, catcher Megan Noel, who hit .323 and had three homers while driving in 23 runs, third baseman Kristin Ahearn, who hit .370 and led the team in home runs (8) and drove in 49 runs in 48 games and right fielder Kristen Lopez, who hit .302 and drove in 19 runs.
Luna and two other freshmen, left fielder Destiny Kennedy, who hit .390 and scored 46 runs, and center fielder Caitlin Moerbe, who hit .406 and scored 24 runs, were named to the first team. S
Sophomore pitcher Camrie Helms, who went 13-3 with a 3.20 ERA, and second baseman Jade Havard, who hit .407 and drove in 47 runs while scoring 37, were both named to the second team.
